In order to reset the nation and put the economy on a road of expansion, John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has encouraged the Ashanti Region’s voters to consider their present living conditions and bring him back to power.

According to Mr. Mahama, on December 7, 2024, voters in the region would reevaluate their voting habits due to a number of issues that Ghanaians confront, such as high unemployment, economic woes, and general discontent with the country itself.

“Many of you have had a difficult eight years because of the rising cost of living, joblessness, and economic mismanagement that has left families struggling to make ends meet. On Saturday [November 30], Mr. Mahama addressed a receptive audience in Kofiase in the Mampong Constituency, saying, “I’m asking you to vote based on the realities of your lives, not out of fear or for material gain.”

The Ashanti Region campaign began on Saturday when the former president paid the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II a courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The meeting took place behind closed doors.

The area, which is the final stop on Mr. Mahama’s statewide campaign tour, is a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a pivotal battleground in Ghana’s presidential election.

It is anticipated that Mr. Mahama will be in the area for six days. The campaign team met with communities in Kofiase in the Mampong constituency, Nsuta in the Nsuta/Kwamang/Beposo constituency, Ahenkro in the Afigya Kwabre North constituency, and Buoho in the Afigya Kwabre South constituency on Saturday. They also held mini campaign rallies in Ejura in the Ejura-Sekyedumase constituency and Wiamoase in the Afigya Kwabre East constituency.

Since 1992, the Ashanti Region has historically voted more for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the NDC is trying to gain ground there.

Gaining support from voters who are unhappy with the status of the economy and want change is the main goal of Mr. Mahama’s campaign.

Since Ejura Sekyedumase is a constituency that produces food, Mr. Mahama criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to maintain the agricultural growth that was accomplished under his administration, claiming that this has resulted in increased poverty and hunger. “The economy we handed over to them was far better than what we are experiencing today, they have failed to sustain growth in agriculture, and their policies have left farmers neglected and struggling,” he said. The NDC’s proposed Farmers Service Center initiative, which aims to ensure growth in the agricultural sector, would be established to specifically assist farmers in scaling up.

“Despite the fact that this constituency has a reputation for producing food, the current administration has abandoned farmers. I’m here to remind you of my agricultural vision and to reassure you that the NDC will benefit farmers more, he remarked.
