Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has received assurances from John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, that if elected, he will finish all unfinished projects started under his former administration in Asanteman.
Speaking at a courtesy call on the Asantehene as part of his Ashanti Region campaign tour, Mr. Mahama stressed that since Ghanaian taxpayers provide the funding for these projects, it is our shared duty to see that they are completed.
It is imperative that projects financed by Ghanaians’ hard-earned taxes are not abandoned.
For the sake of the people, it is imperative that we all work together to finish these projects,” Mr. Mahama said.
According to Mr. Mahama, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has borrowed too much, which has resulted in financial difficulties and restricted access to foreign investment.
Consequently, he promised that his next government would put more effort into finishing abandoned and ongoing projects—including those started by the NPP—than starting new ones.
“After being elected, my government will concentrate on completing the initiatives that have already begun rather than beginning new ones.
“This includes projects that the NPP left unfinished,” he promised.
The former president also attacked the NPP, saying the ruling party was employing propaganda and false narratives to attack him.
He denied rumors that he intended to revoke the Free Senior High School policy, calling them politically motivated and without merit.
“With no campaign theme, the NPP has turned to disseminating rumors, such as that I’m canceling the Free SHS program.
The purpose of these lies, which frequently come from the Jubilee House itself, is to deceive Ghanaians, he stated.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II replied that he wished Mr. Mahama luck as he carried on with his campaign in the area.
Ahead of Saturday’s general elections, the Asantehene also approved the NDC flagbearer’s continued tour of the Ashanti Region.
