A statue that was recently erected in President Nana Akufo-Addo’s honor has drawn open criticism from former President and NDC presidential candidate John Mahama, who questions the president’s emphasis on self-promotion.
Speaking during his Western North Region tour, Mr. Mahama emphasized his contributions to Ghana’s infrastructure and implied that his sculptures would have been seen all over the country if he had made self-glorification a priority.
“Usually, after you leave the office, you receive an homage acknowledging your accomplishments. You are still in office, though, and you have already unveiled your own statue.
“You would see my likeness everywhere if I had decided to erect statues in locations where I completed significant projects, including Tema Harbour, Kotoka Airport Terminal 3, the University of Ghana Medical Center, the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, Kasoa Interchange, and Kejetia Market. “I would have statues across the nation,” he said on Thursday, November 14.
He pointed out that the aforementioned sites are important infrastructure projects that were finished under his leadership.
Mr. Mahama continued by denouncing President Akufo-Addo for erecting his statue at a location where the ongoing project is still unfinished.
As a result, he urged the NPP government to resign, stating, “The amount of damage the NPP has caused is sufficient.” In order for the NDC to arrive and safeguard the others, they ought to depart.
